Aging is a natural, biological process of life that every woman goes through. There are various ways to defy this process that many of us find rather frightening. Anti-aging treatments range from bettering your lifestyle to cosmetics products or surgery, there are many options for us women to choose from, but before any decisions are made its always best to be well informed of the positives and negatives associated with each option.
Anti-aging is described as a method, such as products, used to defy the effects of aging. Aging on the other hand is the process of the body growing old.
The aging process as many of us know, involves the appearance of wrinkles, grey hair and a more fragile body. The activities that you used to perform without even thinking about become a daily struggle. Little of us know about the physiological changes that are happening with in us.
The aging process is associated with the bones in the body become more brittle due to decreased absorption of calcium. This plague build up causes blockages and forces your heart to work even harder to pump the blood through the body, this directly places more stress on the heart.
Hearing and memory loss are often associated with aging. Hearing becomes more and more difficult due to the loss of sensory receptors in the inner ear (Cold et al., 2017). Memory loss is a common occurrence and is often (not always) associated with the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s or Dementia. The processing of information from the brain is delayed, therefore the signals sent from the brain, in order to complete a task, become delayed and take longer to reach the targeted part of the body to perform the action.
Anti-aging is known as slowing down the process of aging. The first effective technique of delaying the process is to improve of change your lifestyle.
Diet is one of the most important aspects associated with daily living. Eating healthy meals is vital for the body to obtain the essential nutrients it needs to maintain optimal functioning for daily tasks.

As stated by the world health organisation, the daily recommendation that each person should aim to consume is about 400g of fruits and vegetables and less than 50g of sugar. The salt intake should be less than 5g (World Health Organization, 2017).
Fish and chicken, the white meats, are considered healthier than red meats. In order to maintain a healthy and balanced diet anything fried should be cut out, consuming grilled foods is much healthier due to the fact that fried foods are dosed in oils which are unhealthy. Calcium and Vitamin C are vital as we age, they can be consumed through drinks and food. Vitamin c is helpful in fighting cold’s and flu’s and calcium contributes to bone health.
The beverages consumed are important in reducing the effects of aging. The amount of alcohol consumed should be reduced as alcohol dehydrates and ages the body. Hydration is extremely important for brain functioning and to replenish the cells in the body.
The effects of aging can be reduced by the incorporation of physical activity. Physical activity can include participating in a sporting activity, going to the gym or yoga and pilates.
A comprehensive exercise programme should include aerobic activity, which is activity that increases your heart rate. This includes walking, running, swimming or cycling.
Strength training is another important component, especially as we age. Strengthening the muscles in the body will increase your functionality of partaking in daily task and decreases the risk of sustaining injuries. Flexibility is extremely important as we age.
Stretching should be done daily to increase mobility and range of motion. Inactive muscles often become stiff and tight, this can lead to strains and tears of the muscles. Balance should be incorporated into your daily exercise routine, as this becomes one of the main issues experienced by the elderly.
The recommended amount of exercise is 150 minutes per week of activity, or about 30 minutes per day for improved benefits.
It is important to reduce unhealthy habits, such as smoking, managing stress and obtaining enough sleep per night. The average amount of sleep needed for the body to repair itself and replenish cells is about 8 hours per night, with variations between each person.
The mind is a very powerful thing. Many people have said that although they might be older, their age does not depict the way they feel. Youthfulness is often associated with the way we feel and the way we experience life. To slow the aging process one needs to keep their mind active and functioning. To maintain a functional mind the brain needs to be constantly stimulated and challenged.
Alterative options to anti-aging are the cosmetic sides such as creams or methods to reduce the appearance of aging. These methods include the uses of a variety of creams and anti-aging products.
Anti-aging creams contain an array of anti-oxidants that enhance the anti-aging process. Coenzyme Q10 is a substance that protects the skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. The production of collagen decreases the older we get. CoQ10 stimulates the collagen production process.
